Kids staring at Screens All Day

This one is for all the Gen Xers and Boomers who notice that all kids do all day is stare at screens. Namely, their smartphones.

It’s like this…

Maybe not so explicit, but quite often people my age or older complain about “those kids” who are staring at cell phones all day.

The thing is, my generation complaining about kids looking at cell phones all day is the most acute case of rose colored glasses in the history of the human race.

Because the members of my generation were also staring at screens all day. But how can that be? We didn’t have cell phones back then!

But we did have this:

Yes, members of my generation spent a shameful, and I mean really shameful amount of time staring at the boob tube. And back then we had only a bit more than a dozen channels. We weren’t strumming guitars in the park, and we only occasionally went outside to play on jungle gyms, but an inordinate amount of our time was spent staring at this one-way passive electronic device.

Kids on cell phones are generally interacting. They’re posting and messaging and commenting, not just spacing out on the media equivalent of junk food like blissed out junkies who just took a hit.

So the pooperoos of my generation need to take a reality check, and remember what kind of screen zombies we used to be!
