This is the news conference I want Trump to give
“Today I am announcing a nationwide lockdown to combat and contain the Coronavirus. All schools, universities, libraries, restaurants, churches, and other venues where people congregate will be closed by order of the Federal government for the next eight weeks. Furthermore we are instilling a national mask mandate, and encourage government bodies at every level; State, county, and city, to enforce public mask policies and social distancing.
I am also asking congress for small business relief and an increase in Federal support for all unemployed citizens of the United States. This is in conjunction with a Nationwide moratorium on evictions and mortgage foreclosures which will last until at least the end of the year. Furthermore I am asking Congress for additional funding to help bolster small, independent businesses, as well as self employed workers and contractors. In addition to this stimulus money, we are also asking for additional funds to complement the wages and salaries of essential workers so that they are given additional hazard pay, as well as Federally guaranteed medical compensation should they fall ill.
In conjunction with the new Covid-19 stimulus package and the national lockdown, I am requesting a massive Federal increase for testing and contact tracing. These policies will be enacted nationwide to help curb and contain the spread of the Coronavirus.
In addition, we are instructing industries to produce more PPE and medical supplies and equipment through the defense production act in order to help medical facilities and hospitals across the United States care for the victims of this virus, protect those healthcare workers who are on the front lines of this pandemic, and help prevent further infection and spread of this disease.
These mandates and measures will be in place until we have truly gotten this virus under control and we have definitely flattened the curve.
It will be difficult. We will face tough economic, personal, and societal hardships. But we must do what is necessary to stem the tide of coronavirus and bring this pandemic to its knees. I know we can do this if we all band together and work for the common good of all of our fellow Americans.”
Yes, I know I’m dreaming. But one can dream, right?
Do I want Trump to do this? Yes. Would it give him a better chance of winning reelection? Yes, most likely. Do I want that? No.
But I want Americans to stop suffering and dying from this horrible and highly contagious disease. That, above all else, is what concerns me the most, right now.
And I wish someone could really do something about it. Unfortunately that someone is a person who would never do any of those things.
