These are seven songs would not stop running through my mind. Songs I really like, but would start playing over and over again in my brain. Totes earworms! So why not infect other people with them? A sequel to my post Ten Punk Songs I could listen to Over and Over Again.
Eleanor Rigby – The Beatles
The very first earworm I ever got was from the first time I wore out an album. I was only six years old when I first heard Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts club Band, and it was the first time I was ever haunted by a song. Eleanor Rigby just would not stop turning over and over again in my mind, not just because of the music, but because of the lyrics. It’s the first time I can remember hearing a song that sounded more like a story than just a song.
Stuck here Again – L7
I was trying to avoid punk songs for this list, but if I’m realistic I have to include this L7 song. It’s not just the tune, it’s the lyrics. If a song ever said anything that I’ve been able to relate to in my all-too chaotic life, it’s the lyric “It starts all over just when it should end.”
Breakfast in Vega – Praga Kahn
From the category of EBM/Electronica/Wait-is-this-inustrial? genre. From Praga Kahn of Lords of Acid fame, a song that has a good beat and you can dance to it. It’s on my running playlist and pops up during my marathons!
Jimmy – Bongwater
There’s a small cult of people who basically love the Bongwater double LP Double Bummer, and I am one of those people. The song Jimmy is a haunting and epic song that has rolled over and over again in my mind, bring up my on personal images along with the song. Just one of many memorable songs from that album
Rakim – Dead can Dance
I played this song for a friend of mine and he said “If cocaine were music.” Yeah, it’s most definitely an addict response, but it was his way of saying that this song blew him away.
Operatic, classical, and haunting. A song I’ve played over and over again. From one of my favorite bands, and act that defies classification.
Haunted when The Minutes drag – Love and Rockets
My favorite song from one of my favorite bands. It’s the tune, but it’s also the lyrics. Many of my earworms are prompted by lyrics. Of all the Love and Rockets songs I’m into this one is my favorite, and has definitely been an earworm from time to time.
In Hell I’ll be in Good Company – The Dead south
The ultimate earworm. A great song by a bunch of guys who look like they’re from downtown Memphis, but they’re actually from Saskatchewan in Canada.
Catchy tune, great lyrics, cool video. And the ultimate earworm!
I only know a few of these, but definitely agree that they are songs that tend to stick in my brain!
Great songs, Eleanor Rigby is such a tune – you have elite taste!
