Half Riots In Berkeley? Moooo!

I have been training for the Berkeley Half Marathon, which takes place tomorrow. The city of Berkeley hasn’t had a major footrace since, well, forever as far as I know. This one should prove interesting though. For those of you unfamiliar with thee San Francisco Bay Area, you basically can’t drive around the block without getting cut off at least a dozen times. This region even has traffic jams in the middle of the night on occasion. True, it’s not as bad here as in some other metros, like LA f’rinstance, but traffic here can get pretty bad.

The Berkeley Half Marathon will be using the entire length of a street called University Avenue. This street goes down the middle of Berkeley, and is basically thee major artery for motor traffic. I aniticpate traffic jams so extreme that violence may break out.

Not that the City of Berkeley hasn’t been trying to warn people. They’ve had tons of signs out throughout the city since last week about the impending street closures as 7,000 runners meander on by. But you know there will still be too many surprised people who’ll be grousing behind the barricades.

Hopefully I’ll be in the Marina next to the Bay when the violence breaks out, but nevertheless I can’t pass up the opportunity to be part of such a riot!
