Alex is Missing – An Excerpt from my Punk Play!

This is an excerpt from my alt-underground play Alex is Missing, a play about four crusty clubbers looking for their missing friend in the underground world of the concrete jungle, as they wade through wage workers, drug dealers, crazy parents, and all of the other underground chaos that makes up their lives on the edge.

         LORI
   (Leaning on her hands)
I can't believe all of this booze is gone already.

         SKYE
You can't? It's Casey after all.

   LORI
Well, Jessica and I helped.

         SKYE
Jessica's still a lightweight.

         LORI
She's getting better at it.
(Sits back - Looks around the room)
I swear, there's simply no way I'll ever be
able to find roommates who aren't total flakes.
Oh yeah, before I forget, Annie was also here
last night. She wanted to know if you know where
Alex is.

         SKYE
Annie?

         LORI
Annie.

         SKYE
Which Annie?

         LORI
Used to have a mohawk Annie.

         SKYE
Which used to have a mohawk Annie?

         LORI
The one that goes out with Jason.

         SKYE
Which used to have a mohawk Annie that goes
out with a Jason?

         LORI
You know, coke Annie. The one that had the
white nose at the Mabuhay.

         SKYE
Okay, yeah.

LORI stands up and fishes out one of the beers
SKYE has brought over.

         LORI
Annie is probably looking for Alex because
she wants to score some speed.

         SKYE
No way. Annie knows Danny Boy. She wouldn't
need to go through Alex.

         LORI
   (Sitting back down)
Huh. That's weird. She really wanted to find her.

SKYE stands up and walks over to the table to get a beer.

         SKYE
Maybe Alex owes her money.

A boisterous CASEY enters stage right with a large bag of booze,
followed by JESSICA. CASEY is a tall, impressive woman with wild
black hair. She wears black jeans, a black t-shirt, black boots,
and a black leather jacket. JESSICA has short and unnaturally
colored hair. (Bright green, shocking blue, whatever's your poison,)
and is wearing black jeans with a white band t-shirt.

         CASEY
Hey you losers! Time to get this party started!

         SKYE
What the fuck Casey?

CASEY walks stage left and puts the bag down on the table while
JESSICA sits down on the couch.

         SKYE
How you doin' Jessica?

         JESSICA
   (Groans)
Still getting over Gilman last night.

         LORI
Hungover?

CASEY takes a bottle out of her bag and sits
down at the table across from Lori.

         CASEY
She ran into her ex Jake.

         JESSICA
He's not my ex.

         SKYE
You went out with Jake?

         JESSICA
We didn't go out.

         LORI
But you were swapping spit with him at
Spider's party last week.

         CASEY
I think he's heartbroken.

         JESSICA
We just made out at a party.

         SKYE
I thought you two were going out.

         JESSICA
No, everyone thinks that because they saw us
eating each other's faces at Spider's!

         CASEY
You should've seen the look on his face.
   (Strikes dramatic pose)
It was a pained look of utter desperation!

         JESSICA
   (Stands up)
If you really want to know Jake was more
interested in finding Alex than anyone else.

         SKYE
Finding Alex? Tweaker Alex?

JESSICA walks over to the dining room table
and grabs a beer.

         JESSICA
Yeah. She's his speed connec'.

         SKYE
Huh.

         LORI
Casey, did you guys really polish off all
that booze by yourself?

         CASEY
Hell no. We had a Jennifer, a Jason, and two
Jeffs to help us out.
