As I have written before, I intend to break a world record: The longest time playing pinball, in which I would attempt to play for 33 hours. (Current record is 32 hours and 2 minutes.) I am doing this to raise funds for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, a charity that raises money to fight Duchenne.
My scheduled attempt was supposed to have happened last April, but that got derailed by the Covid-19 lockdown in California. In order for me to complete an official world record and have it recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records I had to stage the event in a public place, and have a lot of onsite witnesses who would record my efforts and attest to my having played for 33+ hours. For the witnesses, I had to have a minimum of two witnesses at all times, witnesses who could not be friends or family, and who could only work up to four hours and cannot repeat shifts, ergo I was going to need at least eighteen people to witness, and that would be quite a feat given that some of them would have to show up and work in the dead of night. I would also have had to organize backups in case some did not show up or were late.
But because of Covid-19 Guinness has relaxed their requirements for certain types of records. In my case, trying to play pinball for the longest time, I no longer need a small army of witnesses, and I no longer have to attempt this record in a public place where people can come and go to see the feat.
At the moment I am looking to rent two pinball machines, (Both the same game as you have to play the same game to qualify for the record,) and plop them down in a place where I can wile away thirty three hours of pinball playing time.
This attempt will not be taking place for at least a few months in order to secure the machines, promote this event, and get local and national media involved, but in the meantime If anyone knows of a venue or a spot or even someone’s garage where I can plop down two pins and it has access to a readily available bathroom, (I get one five minute break every hour,) let me know by commenting or emailing me at jephmat@needlepictures.com
Pinball history must be made! Funds for the fight against Duchenne must be collected!
